ISLAND GOATS SAILING SOCIETY Chicago Yacht Club Station In Memoriam Ken Kohanzo 'Father of our Finish Line Marker' 1918 - 2009 The Chicago Tribune Obituary Kenneth J. Kohanzo, age 90, of Northbrook IL died on Monday January 26, 2009 at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga IL.   Born May 3rd 1918 to Steve and Minna (Hertz) Kohanzo.   Married Mildred Borchers on July 31st 1942.   Survivors: 1 son, Keith Kohanzo of Charleston IL;   4 nephews, Steven and Scott Kohanzo, David and Melville "Jack" Sellek;   2 nieces, Leanna Lartz, Deborah Borchers. Preceded by parents;   wife;   2 brothers, Steve and Everett Kohanzo;   2 nephews, Randy and Doug Sellek;   1 niece, Barbara Leman. Memorial Service: Saturday January 31st 2:30 PM at the Northbrook United Methodist Church, 1190 Western Avenue Northbrook IL.   Visitation One hour prior to the Services.   Memorials EIU Foundation-Kenneth and Keith Kohanzo Industrial Technology Scholarship and may be mailed to the Neal Center, 860 West Lincoln Avenue, Charleston IL 61920.   Ken was a self-employed jeweler in downtown Chicago before taking a position as a Manufacturers Sales Representative for the machine tool industry.   He was a Senior Member of the Chicago Yacht Club and of the prestigious Island Goats Sailing Society, whose membership is limited to only those having competed in twenty-five Chicago to Mackinac Sail Boat Races.   Ken received such status by competing in thirty-four of the 333 mile course races.   Ken's passion was sailing, but his family always remained a priority.   His kind and loving spirit created a wonderful father and role model for Keith and an uncle that his nieces and nephews were quite fond of.   Arrangements by Adams Funeral Chapel.
