Legends of the Island Goats

The Minimum Qualifications for an Island Goat...
Someone who has Endured over 60 days Racing the Mac;
Someone who has Raced at least 8,325 miles from Chicago to Mackinac Island;
Someone who has Survived sailing through 50-100 Thunderstorms;
Someone who has Suffered through about 250 On and Off Watch Changes and
Someone who has Persisted through at least 25 Summers...

Each year a new Litter of Goats is born.
The next class of Kids will be inaugurated into Goatdom
at the Goats' Annual Spring Gala.   Such initiations are great fun,
because all new Goats are required to tell a favorite story
from their experiences Racing the Mac.

Also, at this event, the IGSS honors the winners of the
Master Mariners Trophy and The IGSS Freshwater Award

In Memoriam
John Nedeau, Sr. 1931-2016    It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that John Nedeau, Sr. passed away recently. John had the record for having the most Chicago to Mackinac races. He sailed in 65 races, most of them on different versions of Windancer. I have included a link to a complete obituary which recently appeared on Scuttlebutt Sailing News. All who knew John attested to his dedication to the sport of sailing and his Corinthian spirit. Please join me in wishing condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone in the sailing community.  Tom O’Laughlin, Commodore
